Meetups, networking, and real connection—are we actually building community, or just showing up?
New I’ve heard Houston has so many events cultural festivals, professional mixers, social gatherings… it looks amazing from the outside! But I also wonder: do these turn into real friendships and support circles, or do we mostly smile, exchange contacts, and then go our separate ways? Do you find people actually open up and connect at these events, or does it feel surface-level? Is it easier to network professionally, or to make real friends who feel like family away from home? Are there groups where newcomers truly feel welcome, or do established circles tend to stay closed? What’s one thing that would make you show up every time if events focused more on shared experiences, helping each other out, or just having honest conversations? I’d love to hear what’s real—what’s working, what’s missing, and what you actually wish existed
